Mouteea Murad

Homs, Syria | 1977

Mouteea Murad’s most recent body of work, reveals his exploration of the integral role that mathematics plays in the formation of geometric motifs, the foundation of traditional Islamic art. Employing the illusionism of Op art, Murad creates structural formations with bright, bold lines of colour, stacked beside one another. Despite the precision of their execution, these works do not appear static but rather, are constantly shifting and engaging with the viewer, their perspective giving rise to multiple dimensions.

Murad obtained his BFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Damascus, in 2001. He currently lives and works in Sharjah, UAE.
