Lulwah Al Homoud

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA | 1967

Lulwah Al Homoud’s work meticulously interweaves the commonalities between mathematics and Islamic calligraphy, resulting in complex and carefully constructed geometric patterns and forms. By deconstructing Arabic script and applying certain mathematical principles, Al Homoud creates her own spiritual language that speaks of her preoccupation with communicating the ‘divine word’.

Al Homoud studied sociology at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia before completing an MA in Communication Design, with a focus on Islamic Art, at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London, UK. She trained as a calligrapher under the renowned calligrapher, Rashid Butt.
