Ebrahim Busaad

MUHARRAQ, BAHRAIN | 1954

Calligrapher and painter, Ebrahim Bu Saad is inspired by his immediate surroundings; the alleys, residents, old quarters and dhows (traditional Bahraini fishing boats) that characterise the old town of Muharraq, Bahrain. Women, birds and musical instruments feature regularly in his oeuvre. Their defined and shapely curves echo the artists proficiency as a calligrapher and his ability to interweave calligraphic Arabic characters into lyrical compositions.

Bu Saad completed his BA in Fine Art at the University of Baghdad, Iraq in 1974. He began working at the Ministry of Education, Bahrain in 1973 as a calligrapher and subsequently an Art and Design Specialist in textbooks in 1992. In 2004 he worked as Educational Aide Superintendent at the same ministry. Bu Saad is a founding member of the Bahrain Arts Society.
